Eki

Biography

Hazel’s journey.

Born in a rural town in Germany, raised in Nigeria and now residing in London, she injects a bit of nature, culture and travel into her designs – always with Africa on her mind.

After working in Asset Management for 8 years, it was her fascination with culture and colour that inspired her to pursue her own career in fashion. And although she loves the excitement of catwalk shows and extravagant photoshoots, for her there needed to be more.

Fashion speaks volumes if you use it as a platform to create change. My passion is nature and being an advocate through my work ethics and story telling.

She draws inspiration from her cultural experiences, most notably her West African heritage, which she finds incredibly rich in story telling. Growing up in the buzzing and culturally diverse city of Lagos is where she first developed her love for the vivid and earthy colours of Africa.

The Brand

EKI (formerly known as EKI ORLEANS) is known for its signature soft silks and ethereal chiffons that form delicate drapings and flowing silhouettes. Designed with the modern woman in mind, the collections feature a combination of versatile separates and gorgeous kaftans that make it light and easy to travel with and lounge in.

As is customary with EKI, the story of the print drives the meaning behind each collection. This is then married with sublime silhouettes to create a powerful fashion story. We have built a narrative around the prints which tell stories of Nature, Culture or Travel, always inspired by Africa.

We have chosen to work with and support women businesses – our production is made in London in a studio owned by two ladies, who have been in the fashion industry for years. We have always kept our base production in London with a small studio back up in Greece.

The team of professional designers and seamstresses we work with are very meticulous in the process of sewing our garments. Every piece is cut individually and will take a few hours to make. Due to the nature of silk and its movement, it is a naturally a difficult fabric to work with; and a further challenge is to match the patterns up with our EKI prints.

With EKI, you don’t only own a piece that tells a unique African story celebrating life and culture but you are also investing into supporting a brand that makes conscious production and fabric choices.

EKI means Centre of Attraction and by wearing an EKI piece, you gravitate towards being that attraction.
